Case Study – Hospital Pequeno Principle
Edgecore Layer 3 and Layer 2 Switches were installed in Hospital Pequeno Principe (Little Prince Hospital Care) in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil through its value Parnter, Delta Cable to provide high-quality core and edge networks to serve throughout the hospital.
2 units of SMC8126XL3 (also known as ECS4612) Layer 3 Gigabit switch in stack link to 4 units of SMC8824M (equivalent to ECS4510-28T
) Layer 2 Gigabit Switch with Fiber uplink served as core networks while 40 units of SMC8150L2 Layer 2 Gigabit Standalone Switch and 10 units of SMC8126L2 distributed to different location in the hospital to serve as edge networks. With those connectivity, more than 2000 pcs of devices are networked together to provide the service.

Hospital Pequeno Principle (The Little Prince Hospital care), based in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, are offering many health services for children and adolescents (from birth to 18 years) . The hospital has a medical staff of high quality that offers outpatient consultations in various specialties with 390 patient beds and 4 ICUs, as follows: cardiac, surgical, neonatal and general pediatric - totaling 60 beds.
Works with some of the most sophisticated and modern diagnostic techniques with cutting-edge equipment. It also offers several types of surgeries, transplants, treatments and therapies.
With more and more data flow within the hospital, it faces big challenging on the network slow and data access slow. The problem of index fell more than 70%. To provide the quick and quality service, the hospital was planning to restructure its data center with high-quality equipment.
In the new network infrastructure, IT manager of Hospital request to offer high-bandwidth and centralize management. Also, it requires to easily install throughout the building with flexibility in different combination.
Edgecore’s value partner, Delta Cable, proposed to use Gigabit Ethernet Switches throughout the network to upgrade the overall network bandwidth. With 4 units SMC8824M in one stack, totally 96 Gigabit port provided to link to 50 units of SMC8150L2 and 10 units of SMC8126L2, while 10G connections in SMC8824M provides high-bandwidth access to Hospital Data Center.
With those units installed as plan, the clients now has reliable network structures and solves its network slowness issue. And, the degree of satisfaction reach 95%.
