Case Studies for Service Provider
Leading ISP Operator in New Siberia, Russia Offers High-Speed, Triple-Play Service with Metro Access Solutions from Edge-Core
2010/01/11

One of the leading ISP operators and triple-play service provider in Russia has selected Edge-Core ISP solution to deploy its Ethernet to the Home (ETTH) service provider network for broadband services.

The Demand

For triple-play service providers, there are a number of technical challenges with regards to the rollout of triple-play services. Voice (VOIP), Video (IPTV) and high speed data (broadband access) all have different characteristics and place different burdens on the network that provides access to these services. Therefore, variety of software support, high reliability, and enhanced security features become the main requirements when making the decision.

Network Solution

The Layer 2 access rings are based on Edge-Core ES3528M and can be stacked up to 18 switches in each access ring. ES3528M are connected with GE fiber links using Edge-Core GE fiber transceivers, ET4201SX or ET4201LX. Each ring is physically terminated on backbone switch. Each ES3528M will be placed in a flat to connect to subscribers, if the port number is not enough, another ring can be constructed by using the 3rd and 4th Gigabit Ethernet port.

The Result

'Since it's crucial for triple play service providers to update the infrastructure of core network, evolving the ISP solutions has always been the first priority for Edge-Core,' said CK Ng, Director of Accton Brand Business Unit. 'With the effort of our local partner, and combining with our powerful solution, we're proven the ability to stand out with those enhanced features, high reliability and strong technical support'.

In the first stage of this project, 1000 units of Edge-Core Layer 2 Fast Ethernet standalone switches, ES3528M, are deployed. The total number of Edge-Core ES3528M switches for this project is 9,000 units and the rest of the switches are being gradually deployed.

Introducing the Edge-Core L2 Fast Ethernet Standalone Switch

The Edge-Core ES3528M is a Fast Ethernet Layer 2/4 switch featuring 24 100Base-FX ports and 4 combo Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45/SFP (Small Form Factor Pluggable) ports. This switch is packed with features and is a cost-effective solution that brings continuous availability, enhanced security and advanced QoS to the network edge, while maintaining simplicity of management. The fan-less design provides noiseless operation and lower power consumption. Using IP Clustering for a virtual stack of up to 36 switches, the whole stack can be managed as a single entity with a single IP address. This switch provides full management features including Web, CLI, telnet and SNMP with optional using of ECview graphical management platform.
